There is a theory in behavioral economics called hyperbolic discounting. It is related to the way we perceive future events and interferes with the way we schedule our time. Neuroscientist Daniel Levitin, author of the book “The Organized Mind: How to Think Clearly in the Age of Information Overload”, talks about the issue in this article. The possibility of paying for training courses and flexible working hours are other attractions for retaining talent. Creating internships and interconnecting areas so that employees can move from one area to another, within the company itself, is also an interesting thing.
It works like this
If someone asks you to do something in a year’s time, you think “oh, that’s a long time! I don’t have any other commitments for that period; I’ll definitely country email list do that!”. But in a year’s time, you will probably be just as busy, overwhelmed and stressed as you are now, but you didn’t realize it. The idea is that we value what is immediate more than what will happen. In the future and so we end up “feeling less” about what we will experience than what we are experiencing now.
